 Avidiversity  AVITOPIA - Olive Warblers

Scientific system: Del Hoyo et al.

Familia: Peucedramidae

You can get "Checklist of the Olive Warblers of Planet Earth" as an e-book here.

The family of Olvie Warblers is endemic to North America, where it occurs in the mountains from Arizona to Nicaragua. The body size is 13 cm to 14 cm. For a long time, this species was counted among the New World Warblers, although anatomical deviations in bone structure and muscle arrangement had been found. In the meantime, this species has not only got its own genus, but its own family, because this separation has been confirmed by DNA studies. Their habitat are pine-oak forests and fir forests at altitudes of 2500 m to 4000 m, where they feed on insects and other arthropods. They build small cup-shaped nests at the extreme ends of branches more than 10 m above the ground. The clutch consists of 3 to 4 eggs.
