 Avidiversity  AVITOPIA - Rollers

Scientific system: Gill et al.

Familia: Coraciidae

You can get "Checklist of the Rollers of Planet Earth" as an e-book here.

The family of Rollers occurs in the warmer areas of the Old World, and in some cases they are downright long-distance migrants. The body length is 25 cm to 40 cm. They have long wings and a long tail that is often forked or notched. The beak is broad and hook-shaped. The plumage of most species is brightly colored. The voice is harsh, unmelodious and not very variable. They are good fliers, but like to hunt from a perch. Their courtship display in the air is spectacular and involves rolling. They nest in cavities.
