 Avidiversity  AVITOPIA - Pardalotes

Scientific system: Gill et al.

Familia: Pardalotidae

You can get "Checklist of the Pardalotes of Planet Earth" as an e-book here.

The family of Pardalotes is endemic to Australia. Their body length ranges from 8.5 cm to 12 cm. They are small and compact, have a contrasting color, have no rictal bristles, and the sexes look alike. Their habitat is forests, especially those with eucalyptus trees. Pardalotes mostly eat insects, occasionally also seeds. They are monogamous and usually breed more than once a year. Both partners create their nests in tree hollows or in self-dug tunnels in the ground. Cooperative breeding does not usually take place. The clutch consists of 3 to 5 eggs that are incubated for 16 to 24 days, and the chicks need about the same time to hatch.
