 Avidiversity  AVITOPIA - Bald-crows

Scientific system: Gill et al.

Familia: Picathartidae

You can get "Checklist of the Bald-crows of Planet Earth" as an e-book here.

The only two species in the family of Bald-crows are endemic to equatorial Africa. Their length is 33 cm to 38 cm. They have a long neck, long tail, long legs, and a crow-like beak. The head is featherless with strikingly colored areas of skin. Their habitat is rocky rainforest. They live on invertebrates that they seek in litter on the ground or in shallow water. They are monogamous and breed during the rainy seasons. Their nests are cup-shaped, made of mud with plant material and are attached to a cave roof or overhanging rocks similar to swallow nests. Two eggs are laid there and are incubated by both parents. The young hatch after 20 days and are nestled. The young are also fed larger prey such as frogs and lizards.
