 Avidiversity  AVITOPIA - Ibises

Scientific system: Howard et al.

Familia: Threskiornithidae

You can get "Checklist of the Ibises of Planet Earth" as an e-book here.

The family of Ibises occurs in all warm regions of the world. The birds are 50 cm to 110 cm high. They have long wings and a short tail. The toes are connected by small webs. The long beak is either curved downwards or broad and spatulate. Most species are quite gregarious. They fly powerfully and can sail with the neck stretched out. Their food is very varied. The Sacred Ibis was the revered symbol of the god Thoth in ancient Egypt, but is now extinct in this country.
