 Avidiversity  AVITOPIA - Platysteirids

Scientific system: Howard et al.

Familia: Platysteiridae

You can get "Checklist of the Platysteirids of Planet Earth" as an e-book here.

The family of Platysteirids was previously classified as a subfamily of the Old World Flycatchers, based on DNA studies it is now considered a full family. All species live in sub-Saharan Africa. Their habitats range from arid landscapes to dense forests. The birds are small to medium in size, have short legs, the beak is flat, relatively wide and has a hook at the tip and bristles around the base. Their main food is insects, but they also eat other invertebrates. Their neat little cup-shaped nests are created low in a tree or bush.
