The family of bee-eaters occurs in tropical and subtropical areas on all continents of the Old World. The body length of the birds is 15 cm to 35 cm. The body is slender, the wings long and pointed, the tail is long, the legs and fused toes are slender. The long beak is compressed at the side and bent. The plumage is very different, with the bright colors red and green predominate. Most species are good fliers and snap their food, including bees and wasps, in the air. Many nest in colonies, both parents dig a tunnel up to one meter long in an embankment that ends in a small chamber. 2 to 5 eggs are laid there.
