The only species in the family of Puerto Rican Tanagers is endemic to Puerto Rico. The family was recently separated from the larger family of Tanagers based on DNA studies. The body length is 18 cm to 20 cm. Their habitat are mountainous forests. The Puerto Rican Tanagers are known to roost communally. The nests are cup-shaped and are placed at the end of a branch 2 to 10 m above the ground, in which 2 to 3 eggs are laid.
