Familia: Numididae

The family of Guinefowls is found in sub-Saharan Africa and Madagascar. The body length is 43 cm to 74 cm. Guinea fowl are plump birds with strong legs. The beak is short and strong, the hind toe is shifted upwards. The birds are ground dwellers, although they can fly quite well. When they flee, they run and don't fly. In contrast, they usually spend the night in trees. They eat almost all kinds of parts of plants, but also insects and other animals. The nest consists of a dug out in the ground in which up to 20 eggs are laid. The chicks are precocial and looked after by both parents.
