Neck and legs are long, the bill is short and strong. The plumage is black with a weakly colored sheen, the elongated arm wings are white, gray or brown. The habitat is the tropical rainforest. Trumpeters are terrestrial and live mainly on fruits, vegetable foods and also insects. They don't fly well, but they run fast. They create their nests in tree cavities or in palm crowns. There lay 2 to 5 eggs, which are incubated for about 4 weeks. The young birds are precocial, and may jump out of a nest at a height of 10 m onto the ground.
