Birds of Saudi Arabia

€ 11.49 *

Saudi Arabia has a continental desert climate with hot daytime and cold nighttime temperatures. Only the mountainous (to 3133 m) province of Asir is subject to the monsoon of the Indian Ocean. Since only a few species of birds can live in the extreme desert conditions, most bird species can be found outside the huge sandy deserts. While Saudi Arabia does not have endemic bird species, many of the endemic bird species of the Arabian Peninsula have their main distribution in Saudi Arabia. In particular, in the southern part of the country, for example in the Wadi Turabah Nature Reserve, which has been declared an Importand Bird Area (IBA) by BirdLife International, one can observe many of these bird species. As in all Arab countries, migratory birds make up the majority of avidiversity.
