Birds of Djibouti

€ 13.49 *

Djibouti is located in East Africa on the Bab al-Mandab Strait between the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. The greatest depression in Djibouti and thus also in Africa is -157 m at Lake Assal, while the highest elevation is at 2028 m at the Mousa Ali volcano. Djibouti City is considered one of the hottest cities in Africa, humidity is high but rainfall is scarce. Most of the country is dominated by thorn bush savannas, semi- and full deserts. The "National Park" Forêt du Day protects Djibouti's only forest; there and only there occurs the endemic Djibouti Francolin and an endemic subspecies of the Green-winged Pytilia. Because of its close proximity to Ethiopia, Djibouti's bird life is relatively rich.
