Birds of Senegal

€ 13.99 *

The coastal state of Senegal is one of Africa's few democratic states. It stretches from the foothills of the Sahara in the north to the edge of the tropical rainforest in the south. Senegal has six national parks, two of which - Djoudj and Niokolo-Koba - belong to the UNESCO World Heritage. After crossing the Sahara the migratory birds from the north encounter the first freshwater resources in Senegal. They spread over several wetlands, eight of which are recognized as resting areas of international importance under the Ramsar Convention. In addition, Senegal shares with Mali a Secondary Endemic Bird Area (EBA-S), the Upper Niger valley, according to BirdLife International the only distribution area of the Mali Firefinch. Senegal is obviously a very interesting destination for birdwatchers. The best travel time is January and February, when many migratory birds gather in Senegal.
