Birds of Sierra Leone

€ 15.99 *

Sierra Leone is located in West Africa north of the equator on the Atlantic; it also includes some offshore islands. The climate is tropical humid and Sierre Leone is one of the wettest regions in West Africa. Most of the rain falls in the summer, while the winter is largely dry. In the middle of the dry season there is, so to speak, a season of wind (harmattan). The landscapes include mangrove swamps, savannas and jungles. The fauna of the country is correspondingly diverse. This also applies to the bird life, but there are no endemic species. Sierra Leone has established 8 national parks and a variety of protected areas, two national parks (Gola Rainforest and Western Area Peninsula National Park) have been proposed for UNESCO World Heritage status. After more than ten years of civil war, Sierra Leone is in the process of reconstruction, but it is still one of the poorest countries in the world.
