Birds of the Solomon Islands

€ 6.49 *

The Solomon Islands are an island country in Oceania, they consist of 6 larger and more than 900 smaller islands. They are of volcanic origin and reach a height of 2335 m at Mount Popomanasaeu. The climate is tropical and tempered by the ocean, almost 80% of the land area is forested. However, the risk of storms has always been relatively high and has increased further as a result of climate change. The location of the islands is very suitable for the emergence of endemic bird species. The Solomon Islands have more endemic bird species than the Galapagos Islands.BirdLife International has established that two EBAs (Endemic Bird Areas) are part of the Solomon Islands and the Solomon Islands share another EBA with Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu each. There is also a national park (NP Queen Elizabeth on Guadalcanal), but this has suffered greatly from the lack of protective measures. In addition, BirdLIfe International has registered 11 IBAs (Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas) for the Solomon Islands. For the adventurous bird lover there are fascinating opportunities for observation.
