Birds of Samoa

€ 2.99 *

Samoa is an island nation in Polynesia that encompasses the western part of the Samoan Islands. The largest part - more than 99% - is taken up by the two islands of Upolu and Savai'i. The islands are of volcanic origin. The highest point in the country is Mount Silisili at 1858 m. As expected, the climate is warm and rainy for long periods of the year (November to April). The Samoa Islands have a number of bird species with a small range, which is why BirdLife International has declared the archipelago a Primary Endemic Bird Area (EBA-P), many of which are even endemic. Since the state of Samoa is a little smaller, not all of them are endemic to the borders of the state, but they could all be observed there. A particular challenge is the Samoan Moorhen , which is probably extinct; but there are indications that the species may have survived on Savai'i Island after all. In any case, Samoa is a very interesting destination for committed bird watchers.
