Birds of Vanuatu

€ 4.49 *

Vanuatu is an island state in the west of the Pacific, the 83 islands are of volcanic origin and extend over a distance of about 1300 km. The highest mountain is Mount Tabwemasana on the island of Esperitu Santu with 1879 m above sea level. There are several active volcanoes, also under water. The climate is tropical with long rainy seasons and a high probability of cyclones. Vanuatu is characterized by its own ecoregion, the Vanuatu rainforest, and the avifauna includes several endemic bird species, too. According to BirdLife International, Vanuatu shares an EBA (Endemic Bird Area) with the Solomon Islands and has 12 IBAs (Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas). All restricted bird species live in forests, which are threatened by cyclones and deforestation. You shouldn't wait too long to visit this fascinating country.
