Birds of Belgium

€ 7.49 *

Belgium borders the North Sea to the north-west and is relatively low in this part of the country, while to the south-east the landscape becomes more mountainous and rises up to 694 m at the Signal de Botrange. The climate is maritime temperate. Belgium has two national parks. The cross-border park De Zoom – Kalmthoutse Heide lies partly in the Netherlands and is largely covered by heath. The Hoge Kempen National Park consists mainly of coniferous forest and heath. The authorities have been trying for years to have this area recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are also many nature parks and many nature reserves. BirdLife International has identified 48 IBAs (Important Bird Areas), areas that are of global importance for bird life, including the small Zwin nature reserve on the North Sea coast on the Belgian-Dutch border, which is particularly popular with birders.
