Birds of Sao Tome and Principe

€ 4.49 *

São Tomé and Principe are an island nation in the Gulf of Guinea and lie on the continuation of the Cameroon volcanic line. The highest peak at 2024 m is the Pico de São Tomé, an extinct volcano. The climate is tropical, i.e. hot and humid with little fluctuation. It's only a little cooler at higher altitudes. The rainy season runs from October to May. The distance to the African mainland is such that a relatively large number of endemic bird species could form. It is noteworthy that there are several particularly large species, e.g. the Giant Weaver and the Giant Sunbird. Not surprisingly, both São Tomé and Principe have each been recognized by BirdLife International as Primary Endemic Bird Area (EBA-P). The Obô National Park on São Tomé is the only national park in the country and is a hotspot for bird watchers.
