The family of Flufftails occurs only in sub-Saharan Africa and Madagascar. This family was recently separated from the extensive family of Rails. Their body lenght ranges from 14 cm to 30 cm. The Flufftails live in swamps and damp landscapes. They feed on invertebrates and small vertebrates, some species also eat parts of plants. They live very hidden. The females lay two to six eggs and the chicks nidifugous.
