The only species of the family of Ibis-bills is restricted to southern Central Asia, they migrate to the Himalayan foothills in winter. The legs are long and have three toes and webbing between the middle and outer toes. The long beak is strongly curved downwards. The body length is 40 cm. Their habitat are quiet places by mountain streams. They eat crustaceans, insects and mollusks. The flat nest is built unpadded between pebbles on the bank. 4 eggs are laid and incubated by both parents. The chicks are nidifugous.
