The family of Seedsnipes occurs in western and southern South America. Their height is 17 cm to 28 cm. They have short legs, a short tail, a short bill, and long wings. Their habitat is open landscapes, they even reach the most inhospitable areas of the continent. Seedsnipes run fast, and when troubled they duck or sneak away. They mainly eat vegetable food. The nest consists of a padded hollow in which 3 to 4 eggs are laid. The chicks are precocial.
