The family of Button-quails is common in Africa, Eurasia, Australia, and even some islands in the Pacific. They are small birds, only 11 cm to 19 cm long. The wings are short and rounded, the tail is very short. The short, strong legs have 3 toes. They live on the ground, are shy and rarely fly. During courtship, the female dominates, the males breed and later care for the precocial chicks.
