The family of Screamers is restricted to South America. They are 70 cm to 90 cm tall. The legs are strong with long, strong toes that are webbed at the roots. The wings are large and have two spurs on each bow. Their habitat are damp meadows and moors. They live on the ground, are always sociable and gather in large groups. They can sail very well, although it is arduous to off. Their diet consists of plant-based food. The shallow, bowl-shaped nest is built from rushes and grass on marshy ground. The 3 to 4 eggs are incubated by both parents. The chicks flee the nest, but are cared for by both parents.
