The family of Sandgrouses is found in Africa and Eurasia. The body length is 23 cm to 40 cm. They have pointed wings, the tail is long and pointed. The legs are short and have strong toes. Their habitat are steppes and semi-deserts, in which they live as ground birds. In several species, the males' abdominal plumage can absorb water so that it can be transported for kilometers to the nest in order to water the chicks.
