 Avidiversity  AVITOPIA - Cuckoos

Scientific system: Clements et al.

Familia: Cuculidae

You can get "Checklist of the Cuckoos of Planet Earth" as an e-book here.

The family of Cuckoos is found worldwide except in the coldest areas. Many species are migratory birds. Cuckoos often have slender bodies and very long tails. The body length ranges from 17 cm to 70 cm. Except for the Roadrunners, the legs are short, with two toes pointing forward and two pointing backwards. The sexes are mostly the same. They feed mainly on insects. Many species are pronounced brood parasites. After hatching, the young cuckoos regularly push the other nest siblings out of the nest. The non-parasitic species are able to build nests. With the exception of the Anis, cuckoos are loners.
