Avidiversity  AVITOPIA - New World Quails

Scientific system: Howard et al.

Familia: Odontophoridae

You can get "Checklist of the New World Quails of Planet Earth" as an e-book here.

The family of Old World Quails occurs mainly in America from southern Brazil to Canada, and two species of the family live in Africa. Their length ranges from 17 cm to 37 cm. They have short, strong legs, but they do not have a spur. They are diurnal ground birds that only fly in an emergency or to spend the night. They feed on animal and plant material alike. The nest is constructed on the ground. The clutches are between 3 to 15 eggs in size. The chicks are nidifuguous and quickly accompany their parents in large family groups.
