The family of Hummingbirds occurs in South and Central America and, with fewer species, also in North America. The body size ranges from 6 cm to 33 cm, hence the smallest birds on earth are among the hummingbirds. They have long narrow wings, short legs and small weak feet. The plumage is very differently colored and iridescent colors often appear. Their habitat is mainly in the forest. Their flying dexterity is incredible, they can not only fly in place, but also backwards. They eat insects, spiders and nectar. Their high energy consumption demands a large amount of food. The nest is a deep bowl made of moss, down and cobwebs with two eggs that are hatched by the female.
