 Avidiversity  AVITOPIA - Barn owls

Scientific system: Howard et al.

Familia: Tytonidae

You can get "Checklist of the Barn owls of Planet Earth" as an e-book here.

The family of Barn Owls includes only a few species, but one of them is a true cosmopolitan. It occurs on all continents and only avoids the colder areas of the earth. The body length ranges from 23 cm to 55 cm. The legs are quite long, the central claw is comb-like. The head is endowed with a conspicuous veil and has a curved beak. Barn owls are nocturnal hunters that fly noiselessly near the ground. They can hear directionally and are able to locate their prey by hearing only.
