The family of Hoopoes is found in Eurasia and Africa and they are migratory birds. The body length is 16 cm to 32 cm. A hoopoe has broad round wings and a long squared tail. The third and fourth toes are fused at the root. The beak is long, slender and curved downwards. The feather crest can be erected and has black tips. They feed on insects and other invertebrates, but also on small vertebrates. They nest in a cave. The female breeds alone and is fed by the male.
