The family of Quail-thrushes is endemic to Australia, New Guinea and neighboring islands. The body length is 17 cm to 28 cm. They have a small head, long tail, and well-developed legs. The sexes are different. Their habitat range from dry landscapes to mountainous rainforests. Their food is invertebrates and seeds. They lead a terrestrial and largely cryptic life. The voice is high-pitched and carry long distances. When they rise, their wings make a sound like those of flying quails. The nests are usually cup-shaped, the clutch size is regularly two. For many species in this family, little is known about the further breeding biology.
