 Avidiversity  AVITOPIA - Larks

Scientific system: Howard et al.

Familia: Alaudidae

You can get "Checklist of the Larks of Planet Earth" as an e-book here.

The family of Larks occurs all over the world with the exception of New Zealand and many islands. Larks are rather small birds (12 cm - 23 cm). In most species, the claw of the hind toe is long and pointed. They love open terrain and advance into the hottest deserts. They look for food on the ground and eat insects, snails, seeds and buds. The fluid requirement is often met from food. Some species protect their nest hollow on the windward side with a little stone wall. The chicks are looked after by both parents; the nestling period is very short.
