The family of Tanagers is the second largest of the passerine birds. It has an American distribution mainly in the tropics. Their body length ranges from 9 cm to 24 cm. Their plumage is usually brightly colored, but there are also black and white species. Tangerines are omnivores. The female builds the nest and incubates, but may be fed by the male. Both parents feed the young.
