The family of Cotingas only lives in Central and South America between southern Mexico and Chile. The body size ranges from 12 cm to 41 cm. Many of the species have noticeable features, such as bright colors, hoods, bare skin or flaps of skin, but they look so different that one would assign them to different families at first glance. This family also includes the White bellbird with the loudest of all bird calls. Their habitat are forests and forest edges, they like to stay in the treetops and feed mainly on fruits. The nests are also very different, so it may be that they use a tree hole, a cup nest, a ball nest or a mud nest on a rock wall. The eggs are only incubated by the female, but the rearing of the young is again different.
