AVITOPIA - Australasian Wrens

The family of Australasian Wrens is endemic to Australia and New Guinea. Their length is between 11.5 cm and 23 cm. They have long tails that are often held upright. Australasian Wrens live in different habitats from rainforests to grass steppes. They feed mainly on insects, only in some species seeds and fruits can play a bigger role. They live in small groups in which the non-breeders act as helpers to the breeding pairs. The nests are usually built at a lower height by the female. The clutch consists of 2 to 4 eggs which are incubated by the female alone for 12 to 17 days. After hatching, the males take part in feeding the altricial young.
