Familia: Cnemophilidae
You can get "Checklist of the Satin Birds of Planet Earth" as an e-book here.
The family of Satinbirds is endemic to New Guinea. The family has only recently been separated from the Birds-of-Paradise and elevated to a family of their own because it has been found that they are not related. The body length ranges from 17 cm to 24 cm. The rounded wings are longer than the tail, while the bill is relatively short. Their plumage colors are extremely impressive and the sexes are not as different as with the Birds-of-Paradise. Their habitat is the mountain slopes between 2000 and 4000 m altitude. Satinbirds live exclusively on fruits. Their nest is closed at the top and only one egg is hatched there.
