AVITOPIA - Berrypeckers and Longbills

The family of Berrypeckers and Longbills is endemic to New Guinea and some neighboring islands. The body length ranges from 7.3 cm to 15 cm. Berrypeckers and Longbills occur in tropical forests from the lowlands to the mountain forests. They prefer to eat fruits or nectar, supplemented by insects. The nests are regularly built in a fork of a branch. A clutch usually consists of 1 or 2 eggs. The breeding biology is largely unknown.
