The family of Bushshrikes is endemic to Africa. It had previously been considered part of the family of Shrikes, but the superficial resemblance is arguably due to convergent evolution. They hunt insects and other small animals from a perch. Their habitat is scrub or open woodland. Up to four eggs are laid in a cup nest in a tree.
