AVITOPIA - Mockingbirds

The family of Mockingbirds is distributed in America from southern Canada over the Caribbean and the Galapagos Islands to Argentina. The body length is 20 cm to 30 cm. They have short wings and a long tail. Their legs are quite long. They have a large repertoire of vocalizations that can include more than a thousand song phrases. In addition, some species can imitate the voices of other birds and also technical sounds, e.g. car alarms. Most species do not fly much. The nest is a large bowl that is built in a bush or on the ground. The altricial young are looked after by both adult birds.
