You can get "Checklist of the Starlings of Planet Earth" as an e-book here.
The family of Starlings was originally only distributed in the Old World, but the common star was introduced in America and is now widespread there. The body length ranges from 18 cm to 43 cm. Many species have iridescent plumage. The tail is usually short, more rarely long. Unlike Thrushes, Starlings do not hop, but run with alternating steps. They fly well and the formation flights of large flocks of Starlings are impressive. Most species breed in tree hollows, but other nesting techniques also occur, including large community nests. Starlings are omnivores, one reason for their assertiveness as colonists.
