 Avidiversity  AVITOPIA - Leafbirds

Scientific system: Clements et al.

Familia: Chloropseidae

You can get "Checklist of the Leafbirds of Planet Earth" as an e-book here.

The family of Leafbirds lives in the tropical Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Their length ranges from 14 cm to 21 cm. By far the dominant color of the plumage is green, but there are gender differences in almost all species. Their habitat are the treetops in forests of various kinds. They mainly feed on insects, but also on fruits and nectar. When caught, they lose a lot of body feathers. The nests are open and cup-shaped, mostly high in the tree and 2 to 3 eggs are laid in them. Apparently they are only incubated by the females.
