 Avidiversity  AVITOPIA - Przevalski's finch

Scientific system: Clements et al.

Familia: Urocynchramidae

You can get "Checklist of the Przevalski's finch of Planet Earth" as an e-book here.

The only species of the family of Przevalski's finch is endemic to central and western China. It was previously assigned to the finches or the buntings, but differs from these families in several ways. Przevalski's finches live at altitudes between 3000 and 5000 m, the tail is strongly graduated, and the first primary (out of ten) is by no means vestigial. The body size is 15.5 cm to 16.5 cm. Their habitat is mountainous landscapes with bushes and small streams. They look for their food, mainly seeds, on the ground. They are monogamous and build an open nest in low bushes. The clutch consists of 2 to 4 eggs and is only incubated by the female. Both parents take part in the feeding.
