The only species of the family of Spotted Elachuras occurs in Southeast Asia from Nepal to Vietnam and southern China. For a long time it was placed with the Timalia, but after biomolecular studies it was given a family of its own. It is about 10 cm tall. Its habitat are temperate and subtropical forests, in which they stay in the undergrowth. The dome-shaped nest made of plant material is hidden on the ground, the clutch consists of three to four eggs.
