The family of Hispaniolan Tanagers includes four species and is endemic to the island of Hispaniola. The family used to be divided between the families of Tanagers and American Warblers. The body lenght ranges from 14.5 cm to 18 cm. They feed on fruits, insects, and seeds. The nests are cup-shaped and are built about 2 m above the ground. They contain 2 to 4 eggs.
