The only species of the family of Wrentrushes is endemic to Costa Rica and western Panama. The body length is 12 cm. The Wrentrushes were previously assigned to different families, but have now been given their own family for the time being. The body is plump and short-tailed. Their habitat are the humid mountain forests, where they inhabit dense vegetation, especially bamboo thickets. They feed on arthropods, especially spiders. The ball nest with a side entrance is placed on the ground. The incubation period for two eggs is no less than 17 days.
