The family of Waxbills is found in Africa, South Asia, and Australia. They are small birds with a body length of 9 cm to 14 cm. The beak is short and strong. Most of the species are grain eaters. As a rule, they are sociable birds. The nests are messy structures that are built by both parents. The chicks' throats are often very contrasting in color. Some species are ready for breeding after just a few months.
