Scientific system: Clements et al.

Familia: Cathartidae

You can get "Checklist of the New World Vultures of Planet Earth" as an e-book here.

The family of New World Vultures is widespread in America, northward to southern Canada. The body length ranges from 65 cm to 110 cm. With up to 3.20 m, the wingspan is among the largest among birds. The birds have strong hooked bills, a featherless head and neck, and weak claws. They soar and glide well often at great heights. Their sense of smell is good and the New World Vultures use it to find food. They live mainly on carrion, rarely on live prey. One or two eggs are laid, which are incubated by both partners.
