Birds of Armenia

Armenia is a mountainous country in the Caucasus region of western Asia; the average altitude of the country is 1800 m. The highest elevation is the extinct volcano Aragat at 4090 m. The climate is a continental highland climate with moderate humidity. Despite its small size, Armenia has established 4 national parks and around 30 state-protected reserves to preserve its nature. Independently of this, BirdLife International has recognized 18 IBAs (Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas) for Armenia, including the large Lake Sevan at 1900 m altitude, which is home to an important colony of the Armenian Gull but which is also home to many other bird species.

All 355 species are illustrated. In addition, links to HD videos of 154 bird species (1h 47m 14s) and audios of 87 bird species (51m 16s) are included. The assessment of the global conservation status of bird species uses the criteria of the Red List (IUCN) 2012.
The scientific system follows Clements et al. 2017.
An index, name registers in all selected languages and a scientific name register, all completely linked.
