Bangladesh consists mainly of the world's largest estuary formed by the rivers Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna. Only a few hilly areas in the east of the country are covered by evergreen forest. The climate is dominated by the monsoon. The warm tropical climate results in exceptionally high avidiversity with more than 750 species. In addition, Bangladesh shares with neighboring countries two areas where a significant number of bird species with very small distribution areas live. These two areas - The Eastern Himalayas and the Assam Plains - have therefore been declared by BirdLife International 'Primary Endemic Bird Areas' (EBA-P). This means that a number of bird species can not or only with great difficulty be observed elsewhere.
