China is the country with the fourth largest area and is located in two of the major eco-zones, the Palarctic and Indomalaya. Therefore, China has the third highest biodiversity of the earth and is among the the 17 megadiverse countries as well as the 10 countries with the most bird species. The country has more than 2300 nature reserves, covering a total of 15% of the land area. However, nature is living under pressure from the largest human population with the expected consequences of habitat destruction and pollution. In addition, 14 Endemic Bird Areas (EBAs) recognized by BirdLife International are wholly or partially in China. The EBAs include species of birds with particularly small distribution areas. This land is a dream for every birdwatcher.
